Every photograph on this page is one of ours, taken on the job, and every job is shown both ways round.

Cleared back for a new fence

Overgrown bank and hedge taken out and the ground brought back to bare soil, so the customer could get a new fence up and start again.

Border taken back to soil

A border that had closed over completely — everything cut out, the roots dug through and the bed left clear for replanting.

When a garden has got out of hand

There is a point where a garden stops being something you can put right on a Saturday. The grass is above your knees, the borders have gone, brambles have come through from next door and there is a fence somewhere under the ivy. At that point it needs a crew, a tipper and a day.

That is what a full clearance is. We come in, cut everything back to a manageable level, clear out what should not be there, and take the whole lot away with us. You get the garden back as usable ground — ready to plant, to re-turf, to fence, or just to sit in.

What we actually do on the day

We start by walking round it with you, because the single most useful thing you can tell us is what stays. There is nearly always something — a shrub someone planted, a tree that was a present, a border that is worth saving. Everything else comes out.

Then it is strimmers, hedge cutters and the chainsaw where it is needed, working from the worst end of the garden towards the gate. Waste is loaded as we go rather than left in piles, so the garden looks better by the hour rather than worse. Before we leave, the paths and patio get swept, because a clearance that leaves cuttings all over the paving is only half a job.

Waste is included, and it is disposed of properly

This matters more than people expect. Unlicensed operators in this trade fly-tip what they collect, and it is the householder who can be prosecuted for it, not the person who took it away. Everything we remove goes to a licensed site, and you get the paperwork.

Where we work

Most of our clearance work is in Plymouth, Plympton and Plymstock, but we cover a good radius around the city — over the bridge into Saltash and Torpoint, out to Ivybridge and Wembury, and up towards Yelverton and Tavistock.

What a customer said

They've an amazing job on my front garden, at least 2ft grass with brambles and who knows what else, turned up when they said and did a good job of tidying up. Highly recommend.

Questions people ask

My garden has been left for years. Is it too far gone?

Almost certainly not. Every garden we clear has been left longer than the owner would like, and we have taken on plots with two-foot grass, brambles above head height and fences lost underneath ivy. Send us a couple of photos and we will tell you honestly what is involved.

Do you take the waste away?

Yes, always, and it is included in the price we quote you. Green waste goes to the tip at Chelson Meadow in Plymouth and household rubbish goes to a licensed transfer station. You get a waste transfer note for anything we take from your property.

How long does a full clearance take?

Most domestic clearances are a single day. A very overgrown plot, or one where trees and hedges have to come out as well, can run to two days. We will tell you which it is when we quote, so nobody is surprised.

Will I need to be there while you work?

Only if you want to be. Plenty of customers let us in, go to work and come back to a finished garden. What we do need is access, somewhere to park the tipper and a quick conversation first about what stays and what goes.

I am embarrassed about the state of it. Does that matter?

Not to us. It is genuinely the most common thing people say when they call, and it is never as bad as they think. Gardens get away from people — illness, work, a bad summer, a house that has been empty. We are there to sort it, not to comment on it.

What happens after the clearance?

Most people either leave it and enjoy the space, or put us on a regular visit so it never gets back to that state. A fortnightly or monthly cut costs a fraction of another full clearance in two years' time.
