A front lawn cut short and edged along the path, with the flowering shrubs and the house behind it clear

Our own work

Before and after

Every photograph on this page is one of ours, taken on the job, and every job is shown both ways round.

A garden that had gone over completely

Head-high growth from the house all the way down to the garage, cut back and cleared in one visit.

Front lawn brought back

A front lawn that had gone to seed, cut right down, edged along the path and every clipping taken away.

Getting on top of it, and staying on top of it

Two different jobs get called “grass cutting”. The first is the one where the lawn has got away from you and needs bringing back — long, seeding grass, weeds through it, edges gone. The second is the fortnightly visit that stops that from happening again.

We do both, and honestly the second is where most people end up. Once a garden is back under control it takes far less work — and far less money — to keep it that way than it does to rescue it every couple of years.

What a maintenance visit covers

It is not just the mower. A visit is the lawn cut and edged, the borders weeded, overgrown shrubs cut back, dead growth taken out, leaves and debris cleared, and the paths swept before we go. All the cuttings leave with us.

Regular weeding is worth more than people give it credit for: it keeps the beds looking maintained, and it stops weeds spreading and competing with your plants for water and nutrients.

The first visit on a neglected lawn

If the grass is long, the first visit is not a mow. It gets strimmed down, raked off and removed, and then mown properly once there is something underneath worth mowing. That takes longer and produces a lot more waste, so we price it as a tidy-up. From the next visit onwards it is a normal cut.

Fortnightly, monthly or one-off

Fortnightly through spring and summer is what keeps a lawn genuinely tidy. Monthly works, but the cut is heavier and the finish less sharp. One-off visits are fine too — plenty of people just want the garden sorted before visitors, before a viewing, or between tenancies.

Questions people ask

How often should the grass be cut?

Through the growing season — roughly March to October down here — a fortnightly cut keeps a lawn looking after itself. Monthly is fine if you would rather, but the cuttings are heavier and the finish is not as tidy. Over winter most people drop to an occasional tidy-up.

My grass is far too long to mow. Can you still do it?

Yes. Long grass gets strimmed down first, raked off and taken away, then mown properly once there is a lawn underneath to mow. It takes longer than a routine cut, so that first visit is priced as a tidy-up rather than a mow, and after that it is a normal cut.

Do you take the clippings away?

Yes. It is included, and it is one of the main reasons people call us rather than doing it themselves — a full green bin does not go far when the grass has been left a while.

Is it just the lawn, or the whole garden?

Whatever you want. Most regular customers have us do the lawn, the edges, the borders and a general tidy on the same visit, which is why we call it maintenance rather than mowing. Weeding, pruning and cutting back shrubs all fall under it.

Am I tied into a contract?

No. Regular visits are just an arrangement — you tell us how often suits, and you can stop, pause over winter or change the frequency whenever you like.

Can you get to a back garden with no side access?

Usually. We carry equipment that will go through a house or a narrow alley if it has to. Tell us when you enquire, because it affects how long the job takes and we would rather know before we arrive.
