The Keep It Green tipper tipping a load of cleared garden waste at a licensed transfer station

Our own work

Before and after

Every photograph on this page is one of ours, taken on the job, and every job is shown both ways round.

Shed cleared out

A shed packed to the door emptied, loaded and taken away — household waste to a licensed transfer station, with a transfer note for the customer.

Yard cleared and re-laid

Years of stored junk cleared out of a back yard, the ground cleaned off and fresh gravel laid over it.

The same corner of the yard emptied and finished with a clean bed of fresh gravel

What we take

Two kinds of load, really. There is green waste: grass, hedge cuttings, branches, leaves, turf, the pile of prunings that has been sitting behind the shed since last summer. And there is household waste: furniture, an old mattress, a shed’s worth of clutter, whatever has accumulated in the garage.

We take both, and we do the lifting.

The van does the work

The tipper takes a serious amount, and it goes where a skip lorry often cannot — narrow streets, awkward driveways, terraces with no room out front. There is no permit to arrange, nothing to book in advance, and nothing sitting outside your house for a week.

For a lot of our customers, the real value is simply that they do not have to lift anything or drive anywhere.

Disposed of properly, with the paperwork

Everything goes to a licensed site — green waste to Chelson Meadow, household waste to a licensed transfer station where it gets sorted for recycling — and you get a waste transfer note for what leaves your property.

That note is worth having. Under UK law the householder carries a duty of care for their own waste: if it turns up fly-tipped in a lane somewhere, the trail leads back to you. The note is your evidence that it was handed to a licensed carrier and disposed of correctly.

Alongside a garden job, or on its own

Most of our waste work happens as part of a clearance, where taking it away is already included in the price. But plenty of it is standalone — a garage clear-out, a single sofa, a load of rubble bags from someone else’s job. Both are fine.

Questions people ask

Do I have to bag it up or move it out front?

No. We load it. That is most of what you are paying for — plenty of the jobs we do are for people who physically cannot shift the stuff themselves, or have no way of getting it to the tip.

Where does my waste actually go?

Green waste goes to the tip at Chelson Meadow in Plymouth. Household waste goes to a licensed transfer station where it is sorted, and as much as possible is recycled. You get a waste transfer note either way.

Why does the transfer note matter?

Because if waste from your property is fly-tipped, it is you the council can come after — not whoever you paid to take it. The note is your proof that it went to a licensed carrier and a licensed site. Anyone in this trade who will not give you one is worth avoiding.

Is it cheaper than a skip?

Usually, for anything short of a full house clearance. A skip means a permit if it is on the road, waiting for delivery and collection, and loading it yourself. We turn up, load it and it is gone the same visit.

What will you not take?

Asbestos, tyres, paint, chemicals, gas bottles, fridges and freezers, and anything hazardous. Those need specialist disposal. If you are unsure, send a photo and we will tell you straight away.

Can you do it at short notice?

Often, yes — waste jobs are quicker than garden work, so they are easier to slot in. Give us a ring and we will tell you honestly what we have got free.
